Philip’s apprenticeship started in the summer of 95 when he was about to start 12th grade.
Besides a surf and skateboard shop Philip has only had one other job…… Tattooing. Thankfully to the
mid 90′s wild crew of HB tattoo in huntington beach southern California……….. ROB NUNEZ (Philips mentor), Miah Thomas, Quinn Millard, Bucky Cryspin, Jhon Cormack, Chris Stencil, Durk and Gerard Collet were his first inspirations and is grateful to them all for giving him this life long opportunity.
In June of 2009 on summer solstice Philip opened his tattoo studio and art gallery under the name Old Crow Tattoo in Oakland California.
He enjoys building and tuning tattoo machines as well as drawing fine line old time flourishes with an infusion of indigenous inspired tribal tattooing and of course spending as much time as he can with his son Satya Dragonfly Ivan Milic.
His works are always original. He is always thinking of the client as if they were in there later years and understanding that tattoos are meant to look timeless and need to grow with the persons body as well avoiding dogmatic and aggressive themes as much as possible do to knowing view points change with age.
He says tattoos are a means of adornment and beauty, they are as old as time its self. Philip also knows and feels the importance of spirituality and religions in there vast forms. He will agree that there is nothing more powerful, more exciting than the transformation and healing which one can receive through the rights of passage that a tattoo could bring into a persons life.
Philip strongly believes that he owes tattooing everything and that tattooing owes him nothing and he will continue to devote him self to the spirit of tattooing, art, and the human form that carries it.
What makes tattooing extraordinary to Philip is that the canvass for tattoos has an opinion, breathes, bleeds, moves, stretches, tightens, uses a voice, at times jumps, has a vast amount of curves, is rarely flat and has no way to erase once started.
He hopes you enjoy his works and can gain inspiration from them and NOT! copy them . Each tattoo is drawn originally for the person who received them please refrain from duplicating!!!!! It can be very hurtful emotionally to someone when an image is duplicated and stolen. As well if you go to an artist who would do such a thing you will only be disappointed and soon find out what low quality tattooing is. Please be respectful. This is not henna or temporary art you receive at a carnival or festival.
With the highest forms of love that come from Air, Fire, Water, Earth, Spirit, Goddess and God the Great Creator, FOREVER STANDING IN LOVE !!!
